Friends of the Sanctuary

Here at The Parrot Zoo we have been lucky enough to undertake a large volume of filimg for TV companies since opening our doors in 2003. During this time we have had the opportunity to become involved with and recieve support from a number of celebrity faces, who have now become 'Friends of The Parrot Zoo'.

Shown below is a selection of friends currently supporting The National Parrot Sanctuary.

Anthea Turner

One of our most resent visitors to The National Parrot Sanctuary. Anthea Turner has been with us for a number of weeks filming for a new mini-series on BBC3. During her stay Anthea became very attatched to our cause and since the completion of her filming has coninued to stay in touch.

It is always a joy to meet somebody with a single minded obsession to spread good, there is no doubt that Steve's love of primarily Parrots but for all things feathered, not only excites him but he inspires others to follow in his wake. Personally, I thought that I could never have got excited at a load of birds however beautiful, but spend some time with Steve, and his infectious love for these birds, will make you a feather fan forever. The Parrot sanctuary is a sanctuary to us all and I am truly supportive of their work.

Jo Blythe

Jo Blythe is a well known face and name around the Yorkshire area where she presents the weather on the regional news program Calendar, Jo visited the Sanctuary in 2006 where she co-presented the ITV series Extinct with Duncan Wood and to which they asked Steve Nichols from the NPS to cover the section on the Hyacinth Macaws fight for survival in the wild. Part of the filming was here at the centre while the second part of the program was shot at Chester Zoo where Steve and Jo filmed their baby Hyacinths along with the bird's parents.

I love the National Parrot Sanctuary, it's great to see thousands of beautiful birds being given a new lease of life
