Working here you see things daily that most would never even take notice of and are so diverse so most of our days are filled with interesting events, so here's a run down for today, on walking down from the health check i could hear a rustling up on the Kookaburras enclosure, looking up old Ashley our Peacock was looking down at me looking very grand preening away (pic 1). Things then took a turn totally different with me having to face a routine VAT inspection which took a good while and hopefully turned out okay, following that we had a visit from the Friskney WI who donated some trees on their 90 year celebrations, (pic2) while here i noticed the Canada Geese land for the first time this year and begin to settle (pic 3), things get a little worse albeit very funny from then on, Pete and Liam commenced putting the new method of perching using the floating perch system where we hand the branches on wire to prevent them chewing through and the finish with sisal rope so the birds do ot fly into the wires, within five minutes of the first one going up the birds were on them unlike the African Greys who took 3 days before even flying past them, the first up there were the little Conures swiftly followe dby the Greater Vasas who seemed to wait until Petes back was turned before ripping into the rope trying to undo what they had done. (Pics 4,5 and 6)
Finally i went in to help out and i dont know who could say these birds are craving human attention as within a few minutes of putting up the perches they claim ownership of them and should you get too near they let you know, i was trying to retie one of the ropes and was attacked very quickly by the pain in the neck Mika the Cockatoo, hopefully it wasnt really meant but comes keen as the tempratures drop after a lovely warm sunny day (pic 7)
Thought I had better get back to normality wipe the blood off and write this blog.
