Just Another Manic Sunday

What a weekend,
Started with Dawn breaking her ankle so just a little more running around than usuall then we had a sick parrot that i had to sort out before getting dressed to go to Vinnies (staff member) wedding, off we went and while sat waiting for it to start there was a little rumbling in the crowd and then Vin came to our seats and said “Steve the photographers suffering from nerves, any chance you can take over”? Up i went and took all the pics for the lovely couple and it was a brilliant service and I wish them both a real happy future. Off back we toddle and before going to the midday reception i nipped off to see how the parrot was doing, he was fine and back on his feet so that was okay and gave me allowance to go to the reception.

The reception was again a really nice setting with lovely food and not one argument in sight, strange for a wedding :-) , it was getting late afternoon so thought i may aswell have a drink, but 2 drinks in i get a call saying the little marmosets had decided to have a bit of a tiswas and one was injured, late Saturday, no vets so Liam drove me back home and into the hospital i went, the little girl was sleeping so i carefully caught her up, put some antibiotic cream on her eye wound, checked her all over and she seemed fine so administered some antibiotics and forced a little food down her, she was then left to sleep a little more. On my return 1 hour later she was stood up eating her apple and looking a lot more lively, so much so that when i opened her intensive care unit, WOW she jumped straight over my head and on to the top shelf, the afternoon couldn’t get more exciting. The plan was to to attempt her retrieval without netting her therefore minimum stress (on her not me!!) It took around 3 or 4 minutes and she walked down stood up by the side of the ICU leaning on to it with one hand and as i went to usher her in WOW she did it again, now I can see it being a long afternoon but just as i thought i was going to have to net her she jumped in-between my arms, frightening me to death and just walked in and sat on her blanket.

So far none stop and only still on Saturday, went in to check Dawn and found the heating had broken down, again as like the vet situation no plumber would come out at that time, so off with the glad rags and on with the work gear, after a couple of hours work it started and things got warmer….to bed and to forget.|

Sunday morning after checking the little parrot and marmoset and seeing that they were recovering well I got a call saying ‘had we got the oil pipe connected on the new development’ as the contractors need it done before they can continue, so on with the gear again (being an ex-builder does come in handy sometimes) and out i go, got it all ready picked up the stanley knife and YES you guessed it, slipped with it straight through my thumb :-0, but it needed doing so after a few plasters i continued and finished it, i then had to get the machinery ready for the next day, at this point i could hear staff on site and they were just happily busying away so left them to it while i checked on Dawn, Just remembered she said, we have 3 Students arriving at the accommodation tomorrow and I broke my ankle while going to do them and Vinnies troop haded the others, so we need them sorting. Oh no Ive now got to turn into a house maid, a few calls later and the cleaners turn up, brilliant in they went and a few hours later they were done, or so i thought, when i went round to check i realised they hadn’t actually finished but instead had to leave early for other reasons, so all four beds needed making, so i donned my high heels put a bit of slap on and set about stripping the beds, it took me an hour and half but all got done.

I was now shattered and realised why we have a team that does little bits each, it did however finish on a high when Nik and Pete called to say they were bringing tea in the form of Pizzas, Cakes and wine…Get in there.

Sorry AGAIN!!!

Once again to say a massive sorry to the many that keep turning up at the doors and they are locked. We are nearly there now just a few weeks (2 or 3) and it would be a shame to open without being completely finished on this particular phase. Spent a good few hours today with the powers that be (those upstairs who tell me how to spend the money?) looking over our 5 year development plan to which we are in our last 18 months or so, its just amazing how far we have to think in front, then a few tweaks here and there just to get where we want to be, we are very close to the layout we proposed in 2008 with a few minor additions so whats next for this year? Well on completion of the new Visitors Management Centre which includes the Rainforest Diner, the Parrot Zoovineer Shop the Childrens Minibeast Safari along with many other interesting little extras we will then be starting our proposed aviary development, working with the University of Lincoln (did you hear them on the BBC talking about our partnership)? It always brings on a smile when i hear them as to be a partner of one of the worlds leading authorities in animals is much the same as having Richard Branson as your personal Financial Advisor :-) Well working with them over the past few years as meant us creating a whole new way of producing parrot enclosures to which the pilot trials will start this year, we have built a number of the past year or so to see how the birds respond and now we are ready to start on the big ones and i am sure when you see them at the latter end of this year you will be very suprised. Another project that is my baby, and commencing very soon is a genealogy program, working with approx 30 species of parrot inmcluding the Moluccan Cockatoo, Military Macaw, Green-winged macaw a number of Amazons and conures as well as some of the smaller species, this particular program is unique in the world of parrots and will really open up the eyes of others involved within it, all in all the total costs will be around £500,000 or half a million, not a lot if you say it quick and a massive family investment but well worth it.

We have a very busy weekend in front trying to catch up but also to add to that we have a staff wedding and to add a few more complications, we have 2 more PhD students moving in on Monday to start their work, this is always an exciting bit as they may be here for up to 2 years….so become one of the family by the time they leave.

While all this is going on, the animals are busy watching the builders and have no doubt got used to them with their little visits and treats during their lunch breaks etc, they are all and even the baby meerkat (runt) is picking up enjoying this early summer treat, although i do believe its going to cool down a little  over the next week or so, with the threat of a little rain, and we could certainly do with it but fortunately for us our water features are still holding out, i have just had a walk around the lake and the water levels still a little above average so cant complain, there’s plenty of waterfowl on their too with mallard and canadas along with a pair of tufted ducks,  a nice treat for this time of year, i do hope they breed we’ve never had any Tufted ducklings before. All the trees are shooting up with many of the 15,000 weve planted getting to over a meter high now and some have reached 3 meters, so every year its getting more like a wood, lets hope my orchards do a little better this year after my enormous crop of 2 apples and 1 pear last year, okay stop ya laughing it was my first year and i had only planted 75 trees, ha ha, yes 75 and only got 3 pieces of fruit.

Well off that subject and on to another, Niel and Coco the parrot will be up at Skegness starting Monday if anyone wants an early taster, yes we open our booking offices then ready to open here and ready to get the buses full, i hear there are already lots of people in skegness but somehow think they are there trying to get fuel in fear of the strikes and not just to visit a day at the seaside, we will see!!

One final item before the weekend starts, we are in the process of creating a new website which will take us back to the top in websites of distinction, sadly let it slip over the past few years due to work commitments outside of the zoo, but now determined to get it back and increase on our million + plus hits per month, I remember when we were excited abuot 1,000 hits in a month but that just shows progress i suppose, the new site will have lots of interaction and show who we are exactly and what our aims are.

That’s me done for today, maybe more tomorrow but when i usually say that im missing for a good few days so toodle pip :-)

Getting Closer

Everyones working their socks off to get their jobs finished in order to get the new development completed, we have the decorators in presently and the new colours are looking really nice, graphics are in place and we have made a real effort on harvesting all the water gathered from all the new roofs, this will allow for new sprinkler systems for some of the enclosures which should be interesting if nothing else :-) . The new forecourt is ready for the paving which should be down in the next week or so then the overhead canopy can be erected on the large slabs already installed all in all it is looking very smart and should open a few eyes.

The baby meerkats are coming along very well and do not need any outside interference now as the little runt of the kits is catching up in doing so she has caused us all sorts of worries with eating problems but should be fine now, i must say they are really interesting to watch how the group dynamics work.

The University has just finished one study on the Green Winged Macaws which was very successful and a new project has just commenced on the Blue Fronted Amazons, again it is really interesting to watch the how the students go about collating data etc especially as we know the parrots and just how they will respond to new situations. We are also hoping to get a new program started over the next 8 weeks with a very interesting lecturer which will initiate a worlds first where parrots are concerned, keep watching to see what it is.

Finally our antis are still lurking around and will probably be feeling a little sick presently as they too have now recieved the letters from the authorities and the RSPCA and disappointingly for them they are all in our favour yet again but no doubt the content will not be believed or will have been created by yours faithfully and then bribed the authorities to print it… a little excerpt is as follows:

Over recent years we have received numerous complaints about the National Parrot Zoo at Friskney. We licence this premises as a zoo and have made many unannounced inspections. The premises are extremely well run and the welfare of the birds is at the forefront of all that they do. Because they are also a parrot rescue centre, often people bring them birds in a poor condition, as seen in the video. The record that they have for nurturing such birds back to health is very good.
The RSPCA have recently also visited I understand and have given them a clean bill of health. We shall be carrying out a full inspection with a Vet appointed by DEFRA in the near future, prior to re-issuing their licence. I will ensure that a thorough inspection is carried out, but I envisage that the standards will be high as they have been every time that we have visited in the last few years.
To hopefully re assure you that all is well here, they are widely recognised as a training centre for Vets and a reputable University is currently working in partnership with them as part of their veterinary training programme.

Kind regards.
Mike Harrison – Commercial Team Leader
Regulatory Services
East Lindsey District Council,

oh and another section from the RSPCA :

 It went on to say.

All parrots observed were considered to be in good health and there were no welfare concerns noted by their Inspector. The aviaries and indoor facilities were considered suitable for the number of species and parrots present.

Where it is clear that individual bird’s are not adjusting to colder winter temperatures or where they are not integrating with other birds in the collection, volunteers and staff at the zoo are taking them for more intensive care at their homes.

At the present time there is no further action the RSPCA can take and over the coming months it is likely that the facilities will improve even further

I doubt it will have any effect on the puppets (or should i say Muppet’s) but as i constantly reiterate, we work by council, Defra and Zoo authority legislation not people who give no consideration to animal welfare whatsoever. I do believe they are waiting to visit us again when we reopen no doubt to create one of their epic fabricated videos :-) , they’re more than welcome, should imagine they wont be difficult to pick out scurrying along behind their little cameras looking for limping parrots zooming in on nutshells…..need i say more

Okay its Sunday evening and what a fabulous day its been too, time for me to do a little relaxation reading before my last health check on the feather and fur outside.

Northern Parrots

Before rambling on in my monthly blog :-) it will become more regular, i promise. I would sincerely like to thank Northern Parrots for the very kind donation. It is always nice when we receive help from the larger parrot organisations, so if you are looking to purchase anything for your pet parrot this weekend give them a call, tell them I sent you, (it will get you nowhere) :-)

Okay to the development, I dont know where to start other than Its Big, yes man it is big, bigger than we ever thought but hopefully just what we need. We are in the central heating phase which also includes final plastering and electrics, it shouldn’t be long now but sadly it has caused a delay in our proposed re-opening, expected opening is now late April early May but will try and get finished earlier if at all possible. Please be patient.

One of our long term students has finished and moved out of the accommodation so would like to wish her all the very best in her future as an animal behaviourist, well done, safe travels and see you again some time Jana.

The animals and parrots are doing superb all loving the the weather and letting us know about it vocally, i can still here them happily screaming while sat in my newly positioned office and wouldnt want it any other way, hopefully and very soon we should have a new zoo manager in place, not only new but one of the best in the country with masses of experience and a mine full of knowledge, all good for our …..ooooh nearly told you, that will all be released in the media release shortly.

With regards to the people that are attempting to close the zoo down using facebook antics, I have today received an email from one of the members saying he has dropped out of the group due to finding out the truth behind the plot and in doing so emailed me some photographs, all i can say in response is; thank you sender (name witheld), I am not really in a position to become drawn into online arguments about personal opinions of what we should or shouldnt do. Although i do not agree with how the birds are housed within the photographs that is the persons choice and it is not correct for me to put them on here as requested.

I do believe the members have now received confirmation from the RSPCA and their latest uninvited inspection instigated by the group, their letter show they have no issues or concerns with what we do here, this can easily be seen by the very fact that only today we have been asked by the RSPCA to help them with 4 amazons, not really the actions from a group who dont agree with your work ethics.

As for the members visiting the zoo with their cameras and videos to film the events and conditions here, they’re more than welcome, the more the merrier (every penny admission helps) we have nothing to hide and even if their intentions are to fabricate their videos again by incorporating false photographs, it will not make us change our objectives or the way we do things. If what we do here satisfies the authorities, the RSPCA and the assigned veterinary inspectors, then that is all we have to do. As for your last sentence (witheld) If thats the case why arent you paying my bills?

Finally, our little Meerkats are coming along very nicely and spend a few hours each day in the sun, take a look at the video:

Winter Casualty

Lincolnshire suffered quite bad last night with the low temperatures, Met office says in some regions it went to -16, our monitors displayed minimum temperatures of – 12 which is the coldest day we have ever had here since opening in 2003, we did have a casualty though, Gobby the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, he had to be brought into hospital with a damaged wing, very difficult to see exactly what he did but there was a little blood and not much movement so best to not take any chances, 2 hours after Caroline had brought him in he made a dramatic improvement :-)  hes one of the special little guys here and i think he knows the ropes after 8 years, too late now, once they have been warmed up to room temperature theres no going back out till Spring, oh my god he got the name Gobby for a reason too, my office is not that far away from the hospital so earplugs to the ready.

I do believe its warming up very quickly now and over the next 24 hours will be back up to 6 degrees, hopefully the conractors will get back on to the development then too as we have had a couple of slow days with not much going on at all.

For those of you that didnt see, our Meerkats have given birth to 3 angel and they are wonderful, we shall try and follow them for the first few weeks on video, she is a new mother so hopefully all will go well:

Okay thats the hospital all closed for the night so Im off home (dont worry its only next door)

Sorry Sorry Sorry…….Especially to the Animal Rights

Yes the first blog of the year is one fully of sorry:

First of all I personally wish to say a big sorry to the real Animal Rights, we have been viciously attacked over the past 3 years now by what we thought was an animal rights group only to recently be informed by one of the largest in the world after looking at our history that this isn’t the work of any regulated or bona fide animal rights group. On looking at the series of events they recognise the actions and methods of this fraction but say this is a personal attack on me and nothing to do with animal welfare. This all came about due to us having the Special Branch police involved who have been monitoring the situation both from letters and emails sent around public bodies, a number of names were logged and it became apparent that this was a little different to normal activity, so i contacted a large animal rights group through a member of our staff who also happens to be a member of an Animal Rights group, that last sentence says enough; we cant be that bad if they will even work for us!!!

Also sorry to you lot that used to read these blogs with interest about the total lack of blogs, we have just been so busy building here, new parrot houses, new education room, new path extensions and new visitor welcome centre and i know there’s been a couple of disgruntled people who have asked why we are building a new place for people when we have all these animals to cater for; Simple, we have over 30,000 supporters and many visit us on a regular basis, for the past 9 years we have, as any ordinary animal centre, been making steady improvements as funds allow, we have now got to a point that major improvements for both people and animals are needed and so major investments are required, in this day and age of financial uncertainty we can not depend on donations alone as most charities have had a drop in assistance over the past couple of years so we are building with no cost to both the charity or the animal fund, whether we like it or not, we need to offer visitors a pleasant experience as well as animals.

This brings me on to the animals, they are all doing fine and the weather at present isnt having an effect on them, although we have always provided acilities for heating indoor enclosures, our new buildings are moving with the times and they have all the mod cons making sure that the temperature never gets below whatever we set it at. This in mind though the birds that have access to these facilities already, still choose not to use it :-) , we have students here from all over the world working in different fileds of study with the parrots, they are amazed that as intelligent creatures, parrots choose where they roost and most of the time thats outside under cover rather than inside where the heat is I suppose as long as they have the choice, thats all that matters.

Saying that, I have always said that parrots dont need the heat, even though we have always had the facility to offer it them should they need it and I know many many breeders and none of them have heated quarters and never have done for 30-35 years so they must know what they are doing as their livelihoods depend on it, one of them lives within a few miles of us and they have nearly as many parrots all living outside. Then again all we have to do is look at last years severe winter and it had no marked difference on our mortalities here, although increased for the overall year it was easy to see within the veterinary and post-mortem records that the dates were well before the winter struck, so although we would naturally expect a natural increase with the severe weather (we only have to look at the increase in human deaths in these times) there wasn’t nothing to be alarmed about.

This then brings me on to all of the issues above, the group of good intentioned but misguided people are intent on continuing to waste public money by continually sending public authorities and the RSPCA here to inspect different areas around the zoo in order to cause as much inconvenience as possible and this hasnt slowed down any, although things are slightly different now. Over the past couple of years one of our biggest visitors was the RSPCA acting on behalf of the group, and not once did we recieve any letters or forms of concern from the RSPCA, the sad part about it was they would also never send any confirmation of that but thats about to come to and end.

In January this year (3 weeks ago) in the middle of the winter the vehicles started pulling into the car park, it then came over the radio that there were people in uniforms seen on the security cameras outside the offices, I walked out to find another uninformed improtu visit by the senior inspectorate from the RSPCA only this time accompanied by Avian Zoo vet Matt Brash, now as our group of ‘Steve Nichols’ haters have always portrayed, Mr Brash has no love for this place and has never worked with us albeit he did do a zoo inspection here a number of years ago which produced no problems hence the fact he gave us our continuation of license.

So he was the one that the group had recommended be paid by the RSPCA to do this uninvited inspection with the inspectorate and this they did, they went through a full interview followed by a very long inspection of every single enclosure inside and out, the quarantine, the food room, the diet sheets, the hospital, they even went in my house? when i say everything, i mean everything. After many hours of interrogation they left, it is only now, 3 weeks later I have had the results and WOW, they finally not only accepted that not only are we good at what we do but IMPECCIBLE  is a word I do not see or use a lot, but are also willing to produce it in writing. The full report will be plastered all over the home page of the website and probably the the front page of the 50% of the bird press that always believed us (theres only 2 bird mags :-) ). I will get it everywhere and even put it on boards around the zoo for anyone thats a little uncertain.

Now, we are not going to gloat over it, we feel that all members of the public have the right to show concern if they have any worries about animals being housed at any animal unit, however how that is carried out is what needs to be altered and seriously questioned. This harrassment has been very personal and hurtful to my family and is caused by one individual that arrived at the zoo a few years ago, he paid to get in, got highly embarrassed when speaking to me, he showed his true colours of total lack of experience in these spectacular creatures and therefore decided to write his own report on the place, as we had no intentions of bowing down to an unqualified, uneducated and down right liar he took it upon himself to make it personal.

He is very good with the pen and the emails and excellent at repeating experienced and qualified people, not unlike a parrot really, the problem is he then lowered his standards to work with breeders and other rescues that for whatever reasons do not like me (beware people, he will then turn on you that have helped him), these are all groups he has openly admitted he wants abolished as he does not believe in breeding parrots, now he has stopped breeding?

The trouble then began, I am not saying that it has stopped now, I know it will not just yet, not that quick, even though all the major authorities including the RSPCA, DEFRA, THE COUNCIL and THE ZOO VET MATT BRASH and the ZOO LICENSING AUTHORITIES have all agreed we are conforming to all relevant regulations and more. I have seen the fabricated videos that have been circulating around the internet to the sad Michael Jackson song, Im both amazed at the content of the videos as i have no idea where they have got some of the pictures from but they are certainly not here, one of the shots of dead greys is an old photograph we used to use in anti-importing weekends (one of the reasons you will see some breeders do not like me, as thats now cut off their cheap supply of birds). Then I find out that they have been made from people who havent even been here :-) as i said earlier he works on peoples empathy to gain more leverage in his campaign. The letters from the RSPCA and the Authorities will be on public display to show any of the doubters, fortunatley these things do have a way of bringing out the best in people also, we have never received as much support or donations from the caring people that know, just remember theres still 100s of people that visit their birds annually, and have done for many years, do you think they would still be coming if we were anything but acceptable?

So now I have got that off my chest and I do not expect every person to believe every word but when its put up in writing, it will be hard not to!!

I must get out and sort the arriving staff and allocate them their work for the day, I wonder if this blog travels around as fast as those false videos? Probably not :-)

More Goings-on at The Parrot Zoo

Well we got the goahead yesterday to start the new develoment so we will start anew section here called….er let me see…”Development Update” Is that novel enough :-) , we have got all the measuring done and the machines roll in tomorrow with the contractors…its very exciting and also a touch nerve racking as we have to get it all completed before we open again in March, witin the new development is a 200 seater eatery with a very tropical feel to it, a new retail area, to buy all those signed photographs of me, he he maybe one day just as a wind up to my infamous fan club…more about that in another blog. Also their will be a new admin and visitor welcome suite which will house some really unique features for entrance like: paying to get in!!! Yes we will have no more sneakers, they cost us around £5000 per year sneaking in at the main entrance, well that will be finished. A new undercover patio eating area too where you can see all the birds playing happily without getting wet in the inclement weather, oh and talking about weather I am more than sure that Lincolnshires drought will finish niow we are starting to dig :-) you wait and see.

All the birds are doing very well and so are all the animals, give us chance to try our newly design parrot houses out if it gets cold like it did last year, but even then we didnt really get any snow just plenty of ice and that had no increased effect on the birds, but with these new houses it will be even better, within every unit theres also a study room where colleagues from our partners The University of Lincoln can view the birds without them knowing, having the benefits of  no stress on the birds and everything needed within one place, this will be the same for every new enclosure. The Macaws are next, their building is up, just the roof to go on and the inside kitted out and then they too will have a new house.

So whats so special about these new houses? Well looking after the worlds largest collection of rescued parrots you learn a few things that you just would never know when you have half a dozen or maybe a dozen, you see a little more of how they live and just what their needs are, (which is one of the main reasons for linking up with the University) sometimes their needs aren’t what we would expect as humans so their new enclosures have to reflect this. So gone are the days of old when decorative wooden housing units that were protected by mesh etc like 90% of aviculturists use, set within the mesh enclosures, In with the newly designed concrete blocked buildings that have double insulated walls and a decorative skin of timber on the outside for aesthetics as well as more insulation, the roofs are triple insulated using anti-vermin foam then tiled with concrete tiles for heat retention and aesthetics . Then on the inside; each wall is steel lined for hygiene and rodent deterrence, this makes life so much easier for the keepers as all you have to do is lock the birds out, Jet wash the walls to remove and sticky fruit etc and then fog the room with F10….something you cannot do with timber structures. The actual enclosures are changing too, they will all have gardens set within a security fence to give them permanent greenery with foraging materials that they can reach but not damage the root stock, the new walls we showed you in the earlier blog are taking shape now and this gives them a constant flow of water so they can bathe whenever they wish, albeit their main water will be indoors. There are also little pipes in each enclosure which are to be used for enrichment by way of being able to stick fruit or willow tree branches from some of the 3000 willow trees that we are growing anually for this very purpose. Another idea we are experimenting with is solar energy, the general idea for the enclosures has always been the same which is not to let the inside area get below 4 degrees in the winter but still offer them the freedom of being able to fly outside whenever they wish, well these new designs and the solar energy will hopefully make this even easier, what has always been the difficult part when you build something new is getting electricity to it safely, due to all the other enclosures, this eliminates that problem altogether so we will keep you informed how it goes.

Pictures will start popping up regular now as theres allsorts going-on, on a daily basis so you will see before you visit.

Shocking News….

All quiet here today, the keepers are working away like little bees and there’s no maintenance or developers on site with it being the weekend so Liam and me decided to do a little work in one of the buildings we are taking down, before starting we made sure all the electrics were disconnected and just to be safe we turned the mains off at the wall, so off we went happily taking bits to pieces and moving stuff into storage, when after approx 2 hours that was it, every socket, all 16 of them were taken off and stacked away, at that point i went to move a piece of hanging 2.5 cable and BANG I shot up in the air only to turn and see Liam creased up laughing on realising I had just been shocked, as you can see our sympathy policy is very low here :-) anyway on checking back the cables we found a further consumer unit that we hadn’t realised was still in operation it was only then we realised that he had take every socket off the wall while they were still live!!!! I touch one bloody cable and get thrown across the room, they say it does your heart a little good when it gets a jolt, so that’s mine done for a while.

Record Breaking…….

We have just had the best ever record breaking blog read, over 14,000 read the blog and many sent emails supporting us and hopefully they will keep reading, thats an amazing number and shows just how many people find what we do of interest. So although this year has had its rollercoaster ups and downs we have had some quite brilliant results, most ever visitors, most ever blog reads, partnership with Lincoln University who are the worlds leaders in many animal behavior studies, voted on of the top 100 most interesting places to visit by the national press and now classed as the worlds largest parrot rescue, hopefully by the end of the year we will have even more to tell you and i will go into all in detail :-)

Now down to earth, Pete set out the boundary yesterday for the new proposed buildings and WOW do they look bigger when you can see the size on the ground, it looks massive and if it all comes to fruition will be just what we need.

The new education building has a roof and the inside walls are being laid out, the decking and exterior stuff is going to wait now until after the winter so they will get an dry period before being used, sounds a little silly but makes sense.

On the parrot side, although we do not take in parrots over the weekend, we have been approached by a garden centre who works with a parrot rescue in Cheshire and sadly both are ready for ceasing trade so will need homes for their birds, a lot do live outside in their aviaries so that’s not too bad but there are at least 20 that are indoor birds so will need a home for the winter. Before we make a decision on whether we take them or not we are going to talk to the rescue and see if there’s anything we can do to help keep it working and therefore a valuable resource for parrots on the West of the country, it may hopefully be a decision made due to the garden centre closing and the fear of what to do with the outside birds, this is where we can help you…Yes I know you are reading this David :-) , so if you are the slightest bit worried about asking or just didn’t like? well then the offers there and I shall be calling you this week to put the offer verbally, you are an excellent rescue and the country needs real ones that know parrots and just do not collect for the sake of it and part with the bad ones, lets see if we can work together mate.

Another bit of news, we are opening our forum again and I am going to spend a bit of time on there answering questions about the centre and the birds here where possible, until we embed it in the site we are going to give it a trial run, it isnt going to be like other forums, although there is a place for them but they do become a little long winded with 100s of topics on allsorts, this is more a chat room so smaller amounts of topics and more up to date information.

Address to follow this weekend.

Okay enough for now and its time for work.
