The ideal solution would be that SN is telling the truth. That he does drink as much as he boasts and that he does work as hard, and as many hours as he boasts – That way, his liver will pack up and he’ll suffer the fate that extreme stress usually results in – there again, he doesn’t have a heart, so we’ll just have to hope that his liver completely packs up – real soon! With him out of the picture, people who really do care and have empathy for the birds, will be able to step in and give the birds the sanctuary that was promised them

How sad are these people, how low do they wish to stoop, I dont know whether to laugh or not it seems so strange that these mindless people who have over the past months attempted to cause the zoo and us as a family the maximum amount of distress possible in order to get the zoo closed down and now they are wishing me dead

What makes it even worse is, I have been talking to this person on Twitter without realising he/she was snooping all the time with evil intent…. As I have always said, this is nothing to do with animal welfare it is a witch hunt and now they have proved it.

I too am now looking forward to them visiting the zoo with their cameras as they promise to do so when we open.

EVIL PEOPLE

All the animals are doing very well as are the parrots and they love this rainy weather bathing everyday and playing in the water, even the baby meerkats love it waiting until last thing before going to bed and it almost dark then. Our PHD students are doing very well but the rain is making their lives a little difficult as most observations have to take place outside although there are certain areas where the work can take place within the housing units but not much. Never mind, we needed the rain and we have it, i suppose thats the only good thing as not many will want to visit in this diabolical wearther.

Here’s hoping things brighten up over the next few days.

Thanks for the nice emails yesterday and it seems that in the main, everyone agrees. Just to answer a few queries, yes the owners will be able to visit them, yes they will still get loads of human attention should they need it and yes they will get loads of parrot attention, being in an enclosure 20 meters from their main flock is no different to being in one 50 mtrs away, still living in groups where possible so will receive as much mutual stimuli as need be. All in all far better for the birds.

Now what to do at 5.10am? well i think i need to order some dining furniture for the Diner so that’s the order for this morning.

Also to inform everyone that we have made quite a big decision where the parrots are concerned, a number of weeks ago as most of you know we was attacked by a set of ……lets leave it at that, but anyway I did visit the site to see what the issues were and in all honesty it was all a fuss with no meaning, they did however bring up something that made me think and so put it to the guys here and we were all in agreement. The group mentioned that it wasn’t nice for the general public to see the conditions that some of the birds arrived at the centre in, being plucked and disabled, we realised that this could have a negative on the excellent work we do here by people who have no knowledge of parrots wrongly assuming that the problems had been brought about by being in the centre as opposed to arriving like it. We have had a couple of emails in the past about this but not really took it to heart so when we saw it was a big issue and could potentially upset visitors we have arrived at the following decision.

We are going to construct an off-show disabled facility that will give these special little birds the privacy and enclosure that they require, people who donate these birds will be able to visit them and on their full recovery the birds will be integrated to their respected flocks. This in mind we are now dismantling the special needs section of the centre and shall use that area for something else, so please bare with us if you visit and that little section looks a little sparse, it wont be for long.

Other than that we should be open very shortly so keep checking the web site..

I received a call from a very nice chap who was in a dispute with a rival, he told me that someone had purchased a similar domain name to his and linked it to our website, now although it was sorted, I then mentioned it in a previous blog and wrongly said that the company supported the Zoo, now forgive me but I understood the words, “We support what you do and feel there is a need for places like yours to care for unwanted parrots” that was said in our conversation, and believe me, it wasn’t me that said it , well I wrongly understood that in a roundabout way to say they supported us? Well obviously not, as today I received a telephone call from a deranged lady, part of an unlike the parrot zoo group.. reading me the legal riot act and saying how disgusting I am, after 10 minutes of her ramblings she then understood that it was simply nothing to do with me or the zoo, we had no knowledge of the goings on, she sheepishly apologised and put the phone down.

In her verbal attack she offered proof of the validity of the lack of support  by instructing me to visit the website, this I did and saw that it had recently been updated to say the following:

Sorry to all the people that have been turning up for a visit only to the realise we have been closed for 6 months, it wont be long now I promise……The weather however has been rubbish with rain cloud more rain and more clouds and they say its going to be even worse tomorrow, well if we could ever have picked a bank holiday to be closed, this ones it…:-)

All the animals are doing fine and the birds are loving this extra bit of wet weather so at least they are benefiting, also something i haven’t mentioned for a while is the Ivanvale Nature Reserve, well that is looking really good with all the newly planted trees starting to bud alongside their 4 year old neighbours so hopefully this year we will see a great change to it. The water sections are also doing very well especially the frogs and newts with 100s appearing and absolutely loads of spawn and tadpoles swimming around, it therefore seems to be working as expected.

Okay its the holidays for you lucky people but not for us, so back to the grindstone and lets push the contractors a little harder (with a little easter egg as a treat)

Getting close on the inside but still someway to go on the outside of the development due to the weather being changeable daily, the entrance is looking really nice and over a couple of days hould see that in completion ready for external decor, inside of the buildings are just awaiting floors, counters and shelving, which is there but needs putting in place. A few late nights to come no doubt.

The Easter weather is here again, in fact EASTER is here, wow where did that come from? We have been closed for nearly 6 months, now that’s hard to believe, well there’s nothing we can do about it so just need to push on.

The parrots and animals including the little Marmoset are all doing fine and like it or not, we are going to have to open the doors to new arrivals very shortly, a few emergencies have been admitted where people have died etc but that’s only the tip of the iceberg, I have no idea just how many will come in once the doors are open but we will see.
