The Scarlet Macaw is 85cm in length, both adults in general red with blue lower back to tail coverts; yellow median and secondary wing coverts, sometimes tipped with green; red tail tipped with blue. Bill horn coloured on upper mandible with black on sides at base, lower grey/black. Cere bare, face white with thin feathered red stripes.

Can be very noisy. Soon become accustomed to keeper. Very hard chewers so provide regular supply of thick branches and stumps. Hardy once acclimatised and can be kept with other macaws. Enjoys bathing in summer or being sprayed in outside flight.
